OTHER NEWS THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

SPECIAL APPEAL - TOYS NEEDED FOR IFCS TOY DRIVE!

OUR LAST DAY TO COLLECT TOYS IS THURSDAY, DECEMBER 14 - MAKE IT A GREAT DAY OF DONATION!!

Our club is putting out a special appeal.to all you generous, lovely people! IFCS has so many children who did not get on their registry for Christmas.  These are kids we really want to help!  PLEASE hit the mall like the shoppers pictured at the left and get toys for these kiddos.  Then bring them to our next meeting, Thursday, December 14.

Here's another thing you can do - give a financial donation to either Carolyn Bradish or Connie Golas. Our community service committee will do the shopping for you and save you a trip.  If you miss these 2 dates, our last date to collect gifts will be on Thursday, December 14.  The team will deliver all gifts, cards, etc. to IFCS following the meeting on Thursday, Dec. 14th.

UPCOMING EVENTS - WHERE WE REALLY NEED VOLUNTEERS!

There are a few events where we still need bodies - lots of bodies!  We have a club where everyone wants to help - well this is your opportunity.  Please commit to at least one of these activities.

IFCS HOLIDAY BASKETS TO SENIORS:

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 16

IFCS sponsors holiday baskets and builds them for local low income seniors.  Since we missed out on adopting families for IFCS this year, this will be your opportunity to participate in a wonderful activity that is SO worthwhile.

The baskets are filled with gifts and food - the stuff of a happy holiday!   You'll go over to IFCS, 3370 S Irving St, Englewood, CO 80110, in the morning of Dec. 16, collect baskets and addresses, then go forth and deliver!  It's a wonderful experience, getting to meet seniors around town and making their holidays a little merrier!

Contact Carolyn Bradish or Connie Golas.

INDIAN CENTER:

FRIDAY & SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15 & 16

Our work with the Denver Indian Center is really ramping up.  The Coat Drive, to which we donated is a huge way, was the most successful ever and it's the first year they've had an overabundance!  Next up - preparing for their annual children's holiday party.  Our involvement?  Go down to wrap the kids' presents.  We have 2 days now, Friday evening, Dec. 15 and early Saturday morning, Dec. 16 - you can go one day or both.

Contact Mickie Cameron or Andy Becher.

SANTA CLOTHES:

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13

Each year, Rotary partners with Kohl's Park Meadows store of Quebec.  WEAR A SANTA HAT TO IDENTIFY YOURSELF AS A ROTARIAN HELPER ELF!  Students are bussed in from different organizations, CASA, Boys Hope, Girls Hope & Hide in Plain Sight to name a few.  Each child is given $100 to spend on clothes for themselves.  A Rotarian accompanies them  to find the right sizes and styles and keep on budget.  The joy in their eyes when they hear they've hit the preverbal jackpot is so exciting!

Contact Connie Golas.

STATE OF THE STATE LUNCHEON

SAY HELLO TO THE HICK!
The 11th annual State of the State Luncheon is co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Southeast Denver and District 5450. It will be held December 7th at the Denver Marriott Tech Center (noon to 1:30 pm).  The club has stepped it up in a big way - not only are we dark that day so people can attend without a conflict, but they're also applying our 'lunch money' to our ticket price.  So $30 of the $60 luncheon ticket is being underwritten by the club, costing members only $30 for this great program.

In addition to keynote speaker Susan Klebold, Governor John Hickenlooper will address the State’s efforts in the areas of mental health and wellness.  The luncheon will be preceded by a Mental Health Symposium presented by the Rotary Mental Health Initiative (9 am-11:20 am; Free/Registration Required) and a Mental Health & Wellness Expo (11:00-11:55 am; no charge to attend). Visit the district website for more info, http://www.rotary5450.org/page/stories or contact Jerry Wilford.
