Global Grant for the Respire Haiti Christian School - Mike Oldham, Rotary Club of Parker
I am writing to you to advise that the work involved in the Global Grant for the Respire Haiti Christian School, to which your club contributed, has been completed, the final report filed and approved by the Rotary Foundation. This Grant was conceived because of the need for education and clean water in Haiti, a country with high rates of illiteracy and water born diseases.
Because of your club's generosity, and a substantial match by three Districts and the Rotary Foundation, this $114,000 Global Grant has provided solar power in seven buildings for this school of 550 students and 100 staff, located in Gressier, Haiti west of Port au Prince, illuminating their classrooms, bathroom, and providing wall plugs for fans, and in one building, computers with needed air conditioning, as well as power for other electrical equipment like the schools' two water well pumps. In addition the funds paid for the construction of a water distribution center which now provides clean water to the citizens in need in Gressier as well as instruction in good sanitation practices, and for the training of Respire teachers to instruct illiterate Haitian adults in how to read and write in their native language of Creole.
On behalf of the International Club, Rotary Club of Parker, and the host club, Rotary Club of Leogane, Haiti, thank you for supporting this Grant which will perpetually bring better lives to the citizens of Haiti. To learn more about the remarkable Respire Haiti Christian School please go to its web site: www.RespireHaiti.org.
