LAST WEEK
JOHN KENYON SHOWED US 'THE WAY'

Boulder Valley Rotarian, John Kenyon, is one involved guy.  In addition to his club duties, he's also heavily involved in Young RYLA as well as being very well traveled both adventure and volunteer based.  He walked us along the Camino de Santiago from France to Spain. If you'd like to revisit the video, John has provided the link.  https://vimeo.com/219748212

THIS WEEK

Arthur C. Jones, Ph.D, is a Teaching Professor of Music, Culture, and Psychology at the Department of Musicology and Ethnomusicology at DU's Lamont School of Music. He will talk about the Effects of African-American Spirituals.

GREETERS

NANCY ARKINS STEPS IT UP TO BECOME THE NEW WHEEL SPINNER EDITOR!
Hats off to new member Nancy for taking the reins of the Wheel. Nancy found this as a golden opportunity to get involved, get to know the members better and be on top of club activities.  A nurse by profession, Nancy is looking forward to getting in touch with her creative side.

For the next couple of weeks, please send your story or announcement messages to both Nancy narkins99@gmail.com, and Sue Bramley.  Nancy is looking to transition into the editor position by May 1.

Todd McPherson, Development Director, from Integrated Family Community Services provided updates from recent and upcoming events.  This year’s Nibbles ‘n Sips was their best gala ever raising a record $184,000. Making Mother’s Day baskets for 200 single Moms is next on their agenda set for April 18th with distribution on the 28th. June 23rd is the date for the 23rd miniature golf friend-raising event, Puttin’ for a Purpose.  And, finally, their bowling fundraiser, Boo-athon with be in the Halloween time frame.

GIVING & GETTING!

The award to the left will be presented to the International Baccaularate school in Costa Rica when Jerry Wilford, Marion & Phil Calderbank go down later this month in the name of the Sue Fox Memorial Library.

Also at last week's meeting, JAMLAC presented the club with an award for our work with their organization.

STEP RIGHT UP, GET YOUR GROCERY CARD!
Bob Larson reminded everyone to start using their King Soopers gift cards.  It's such an easy way to help the club - we all have to grocery & gas shop anyway - why not let the club get a 5% return on your every dollar. To participate, get your card from Bob, go to the service desk at Kings and load it up with $$$$, shop and use the card at check out.  Easy money friends!

BESSIE'S HOPE GALA A BIG SUCCESS!
Five club members attended the Bridge of Love Gala for Bessie's Hope Saturday night.

Inspired by her grandmother’s tragic nursing home experience, Linda Holloway and co-founders, Sharron Brandrup and Marge Utne, worked to create an organization that would bring community awareness and participation into nursing homes.  “Bring them together, the young and the old” was her mantra.

The program started in 1989. The work of Bessie’s Hope transforms the lives of the too-often forgotten elders, the misdirected “at-risk” youth and all who participate in the volunteer programs. Because of the training, activities, and structure provided by Bessie’s hope, a fertile space is created for relationships to be cultivated across generations.  It has become evident through the years that this work does for at-risk youth what nothing else can. They feel valued and needed and finally validated as human beings with purpose in this world.
