HIPS Gala, Nov 3rd - Tamara Fennell
Saturday’s Hide In Plain Sight “An Evening of Heart” annual gala was well attended by HR Rotary Club members and friends. At the gala, HRRC Foundation was awarded the Hide In Plain SightPaton Lascor Awardin recognition for significant and tireless service to at risk students and youth. HIPS Board Member; Jerry Wilford presented the award to Club President, Connie Golas and Foundation Chair, SteveMiller. HRRC was also a Diamond Level sponsor generously contributing a $10,000 sponsorship. HIPS aims to break the cycle of homelessness and poverty through education and is grateful for the continued support and partnership that HRRC has provided since fellow club member, Joe Roos, founded the nonprofit in 2015. The organization currently serves the entire state of Colorado where over 24,000 students are homeless.
CR Education & Literacy Mission - Phil Calderbank
On our first day, we met and cemented friendships with the Belin Rotary Club, which is close to the Capital; San Jose. We then split into two teams. Team #1 consisted of Jerry Wilford, Marion Trummer, Bill Simmermon, and Reen Gottron. This team went to spend time at the Sue Fox Memorial Library and also with local Rotarians. If you follow our Facebook page you will see pictures of this team as posted by Reen. The library is now fully operational; our team added chairs, shelving and more books. We now have a model on which to build and with the help of the Belin Club we aim to open a second library in another town at some point in the near future. I lead Team # 2; Bob Larson, Shrin Murthy, and Fritz Gottron. We went south to teach the IB Course at two schools - contact me for more details about this course -. Each course lasted two days. The kids learned a lot and we all had blast. The hugs and smiles at the end of each session are worth more than any amount of money can buy.
