IFCS SCHOOL SUPPLY DAY-last day to donate school supplies and/or gift cards
From Our President ….
Connie expounded her goals for the Club by first stating follow Cindy's lead to continue receiving the Rotary Citation with Presidential Distinction (achieve the Rotary Citation plus one of the following: support and strengthen clubs; focus and increase humanitarian service; enhance public image and awareness). Clubs lose 25% of new members in the first 2 years - increase and retain new members, encourage young professionals (currently only 8 members under the age of 40), encourage Rotaract members to continue Rotary membership, encourage women to join especially in Sunrise with no female members (our Club has 37% women), welcome and engage new members, and bring a friend. Strengthen member satisfaction: quarterly vocational panel showcasing our professions/hobbies; continue friendship dinners every 3-4 months; continue social opportunities; alternate evening gatherings and/or dark days at restaurants/bars. Increase humanitarian services: Ronald McDonald dinners more frequently; support HIPS; visit seniors; military/veterans support; and, increase Santa clothes recipients. Continue Costa Rica projects improving literacy and education in the underserved. Increase public awareness. Wear your pin daily/be proud to be a Rotarian.
Use the People of Action Campaign to Tell Rotary's Story
When someone asks you about Rotary how do you respond? Rotary International has anew People of Action public image campaign with the aim to help you answer that question quickly and effectively. Telling our People of Action stories in a meaningful, coordinated way builds the public’s understanding of who we are and what we do. It highlights the impact we make in our communities and around the world. Go to rotary.org/brandcenter to learn how to tell your People of Action story and help answer the question, what is Rotary.
What the Club Needs From YOU
October is polio eradication month - we need a polio eradication champion
A Facebook Champion (Phil can't do it all!)
A Club Historian (Thanks to Jim Kelley for his time and dedication to this project!)
LAST WEEK - Diane Messamore, Rotarians 4 Mental Health (www.R4MH)
Diane, a 28 year member of the Denver Mile High Club, discussed R4MH; the Mission of the Rotarians for Mental Health is to build stronger communities through involvement and education in order to raise awareness, foster compassion and develop broad-based support for those affected by mental health and substance use disorders. One in five adults have a crisis each year and don't seek help; we need to raise awareness and show together we can make a difference. We can get involved by forming an action group/passionate champions; build awareness using speaker's bureaus; determine what is needed in our community/perform a needs assessment; and, identify a project our Club can do. Other local Clubs have developed crisis cards that can be taken without being seen, suicide prevention, and brain wise. We can all learn more by joining the R4MH website and consider scheduling mental health first aid classes teaching you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders in your community (an 8 hour class). For further information their "State of the State Luncheon" is scheduled December 13th with Molly Bloom as the keynote speaker.
